More About Small Works Exhibition
The desire of this show is to seamlessly blend the interests and inspirations of UNCG’s current students alongside its recent alumni. With the works juxtaposed close together, the viewers are encouraged to reference the commonalities between the artists’ and mediums.
More About the Curators
Quan Apollo (b. 2001) is an African American and Vietnamese interdisciplinary artist. Working largely in the photographic, sculpting, collage, and printmaking mediums, he explores issues of race, culture, and intersectionality to create a broader understanding of tense relations between groups of people in the American landscape. Additionally, Quan uses his platform to connect and create opportunities to give underserved communities access to fine art and avenues to establish careers in artmaking by curating and taking residential commissions along the east coast.
Sarah Smith is a painter considering the ‘small moments’ in personal perceptions and photographs captured from the deepest relationships she holds. Pondering the vulnerable aspect of the human experience, the mode in which to apply technical renderings of color; psychology, mind and memory, as well as sentimentality, are realized with renderings of candid moments surrounded by nostalgic environments to memorialize and reflect the intensity of memory.
