USING GREENSBORO PROJECT SPACE
Amenities and Services
As a zero-profit gallery, GPS is not able to provide any funding for artist projects.
What we are able to provide, however, includes the following:
Basic Technology + Installation Work Equipment
- We provide basic technology for videos and sound, with a number of iMac desktops, video projectors, TV monitors, headphones, and speakers available. Anything custom or beyond these offerings are the artist’s responsibility.
- We provide standard items for installation, including pedestals, tools, and an array of nails/screws/hardware/magnets for hanging 2D work.
- Black curtains (to cover windows or separate entrances between galleries), if requested.
- Chairs, tables, and stools, if needed.
Installation Services
- The space’s Director and Assistant, along with student staff members, will be scheduled to assist you with installation on Monday. You may also choose not to have any assistance from the GPS crew, provided you are making your own arrangements and communicating in advance. Know that someone may be available to assist further if needed, however, please communicate in advance.
- The GPS crew will also make, print, and install vinyl with the exhibition title and artist’s name for the main door or the wall, along with formatting and printing written statements and/or labels for the work, as requested and needed.
- Engagement Event Services
- For events connected to your exhibition, you can expect an on-site GPS staff member to help with setup and teardown, to answer visitor questions, and to help keep things running smoothly. You will also have access to GPS’s collection of folding tables, chairs, and any of our available technology (listed above under installation equipment).
Reception Support
Community artists will be responsible for providing all food, drinks, napkins/plates/cups/cutlery, and ice.
GPS has in house, and will provide for Receptions:
- A staff member to act as bartender
- A small refrigerator to store food and drink items before event
- Tables
- Navy blue tablecloths
- Wine/Bottle opener
- Cooler +/or oval tub (5.5 gallons)
- Serving trays
- Serving tongs
- Serving spoons (x2)
- Bluetooth speaker (not super, super powerful) for music/ambiance
If you would like to provide alcohol at your reception, please let the Director know early so they can submit a request for an alcohol permit.
- We are only allowed to serve beer and wine at these receptions, not hard alcohol. It is required that if we are serving wine/beer, we must also always provide a non-alcoholic option (ie: water, seltzer, soda). It is also required that if serving alcohol, we provide some sort of food for all attending.
If you make additional plans to add to your Reception, like having live music, for example, just keep the space’s Director in the loop.
Promotion
Feel free to ramp up your promotion as you see fit, individually, yet know to expect the following from our team:
- Your own GPS webpage: This will include your show’s basic info, your exhibition statement, artist statement, flier image, website hyperlink, socials hyperlink, and any other featured images you send. Feel free to send other info/materials to add, if desired. Inclusion in GPS’s Monthly Newsletter: Your exhibition details, description, and flier image will be included in your show month’s newsletter.
- UNCG School of Art, GPS, CVPA, and Public Calendars: Your exhibition, details, and flier will be added to all UNCG calendars with public access, along with being added to local public event calendars.
- Instagram: We will include your exhibition a few weeks prior to open on our “This Week at GPS” IG story roll-out (every Monday). We will do an Install/behind the scene teaser reel on IG of your installation day. If you’re interested in chatting on camera a bit about your work, we can make you a “Meet the Artist” reel in addition to this. The week of your show run, we will do a variety of IG promos that could include: exhibition photos, walkthrough reels or a video montage of your work, reception reminder/last chance, happening now receptions videos, etc.
