More About Tenets:
Tenets is a group of large block prints that draw from both personal and auxiliary insights to form a credo of sorts.
The works in this series offer sentiments which resonated with me during a period of great uncertainty in my art journey. These prints broadly serve as statements of self-affirmation and accountability — their overt size mirroring their personal significance.
The work in gallery three is predicated on the preliminary materials and tools present in gallery two. In this sense, they share a relationship of growth and realization. Similarly, the work in both galleries could be considered as a reflection of the artist’s struggle against ego, fear, and indecision — recognizing a desire for personal growth, and taking the necessary steps toward that objective. As a result, the work could be read as autobiographical, conveying a progression from rough concept to final product.
Apart from highlighting these messages, the objective is to encourage viewers to contemplate each message, how it may pertain to their lives (or not), and to consider their own journey and ruleset.
More About Andrew:
It would be disingenuous to posture myself as someone who knows his art very intimately — at least from a clinical perspective. Creativity to me has never been defined by prescriptive statements, as they detract from the fun part: the process. As a result, I prefer to craft without a thesis, only discerning how my work communicates in hindsight. Through reflection, I can interrogate creative decisions, as well as deeper inferences about myself.
My interests lie in print, signage, and typography — executed in paint, ink, or graphite; on materials such as paper, wood, or glass. Though I openly appreciate their approachable nature, there’s an underlying affinity toward these materials that I’m still penetrating.
