NCDF is celebrating its 28th season with shows in traditional and non-traditional venues across NC. Fierce, honest, reflective, and playful, the concert presents a wide variety of NC dance.

ShaLeigh Dance Works, under the artistic leadership of ShaLeigh Comerford, is a dance theatre company dedicated to creating socially conscious works. Their success has taken them from performances and residencies in NYC to Germany, England, Israel and Japan. Since landing in NC, the company has celebrated touring with the North Carolina Dance Festival, performing at the prestigious American Dance Festival, and presenting two evening length works as a part of Durham Independent Dance Artists. Comerford is a graduate of Hollins University with a Master’s degree in Visual and Performing Arts. She is a showcased artist of DIDA’s 2014-15 & 2017-18 Season, an awarded winner in the 2013 Tokyo Experimental Festival of Sound, Art & Performance, and her contemporary choreography was selected by the World Ballet Competition International to be featured alongside of Momix and several other award-winning dancers and choreographers in the 2014 Gala. While based in NYC, Comerford was the recipient of Dance Theatre Workshop’s 2007 Creative Residency and was a featured choreographer at Chen Dance Center’s 2007 NewSteps.

Sarah Council is Founder/Artistic Director of Sarah Council Dance Projects. Council’s choreography has been presented in numerous venues in New York City, Washington DC, Kentucky, Pennsylvania, Florida and North Carolina. Sarah Council Dance Projects has received support from the Queens Council on the Arts, The Puffin Foundation and The DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities. Council was awarded the 2016 North Carolina Dance Alliance/ North Carolina Dance Festival New Works Award for her work, Dislocate. Council has conducted residencies, presented lecture demonstrations and taught master classes and dance-making workshops to people of all ages and abilities throughout New York City, New Jersey, Washington DC, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Kentucky and Florida.
Megan Mazarick is a choreographer, performer, and teacher. Growing up, she took dance classes with her mom at Arts Together in Raleigh, NC a studio that encouraged creativity and loving the skin you are in. She earned her BFA in dance from UNCG and an MFA in choreography from Temple University. As a choreographer, she makes work that is humorous, political, theatrical, and personal, often including a stop motion physicality and love of fantasy. She has shown work internationally (Singapore, Bulgaria, Egypt, Poland, Australia, and Hungary) and throughout the USA (Philadelphia, San Francisco, Minneapolis, New York City, etc.). As a performer she has worked with Susan Rethorst, Keith Thompson, Marianela Boan, Merian Soto, Anonymous Bodies, and members of Lower Left. Megan has taught technique, improvisation, and composition classes at studios, festivals, and universities around the globe.
