Connecting Community Through Tiny Art Exchange
Presented by Greensboro Project Space An Original Partnership with Peacehaven Farm
GPS is thrilled to be able to offer a corner of their gallery space for this semi-permanent installation as the site for this tiny art exchange initiative, where gallery goers are encouraged to experience tiny art, take it with them if they desire, and contribute their own tiny artworks.
The Peacehaven Farm Core Members and GPS student interns will be the first round of artists contributing to this initial installation/exchange back in November 2022. From here, we hope any and all will participate and continue the practice of a continuous, free tiny art exchange between GPS, the UNCG community, Peacehaven Farm, and the local Greensboro community.
Greensboro Project Space’s Mini Museum Project: Connecting Community Through Tiny Art Exchange is a new community-facing project developed in original partnership with Peacehaven Farm (Whitsett, NC), a working, sustainable farm that supports on-site living for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. GPS and Peacehaven Farm share a core value of building mutually beneficial relationships through connecting with our communities.
How It Works
1. Get creative - make a small scale/tiny piece of art of your own!
2. Come to GPS and visit the Mini Museum Project shelves
3. Find a piece of tiny art that inspires you or brings you joy and take it home
4. In exchange, leave your small creation for others to enjoy
GPS can’t wait to see the Mini Museum space adorned with small sculptures, tiny paintings, or other bite-sized creations by and for our community members!
Meet the Inaugural Artists : Peacehaven Community Farm Core Members
Hi, my name is Jeff P. I am a very creative musician who plays the ukulele and percussion instruments in the Gate City New Horizons concert band. I also love art and how it brings the community together to enjoy. My favorite type of art is cartoon because my grandpa used to draw cartoons. I love Al Hirshfield, Andy Warhol and Walt Disney art. I am also the host of the Peacehaven Crew Show, a podcast I have been hosting for the past three years where we interview people we admire.
Hi, My name is Anne H. I love making tiny art because it is fun! Making art is also relaxing and I love how it makes me calm. It reminds me of how I feel when I play the piano or ukulele. I especially like making pet rocks, and I made a special piece I named “Princess” for the Mini Museum. I think art helps to bring people together, and that’s why I like it.
Hi, I am Adam S. and I like to sculpt figures in clay. Working with clay is exciting to me because I can create anything I want. I just created a duck who is part of the tiny art exhibit. Where I live, at Peacehaven, we have six chickens that I take care of. I feed them and give them water, and I bring in any eggs they lay. It makes me feel good to do this and care for them.
Hi, my name is Ben H. and I love working on all art projects, but drawing is my favorite kind of art. Art makes me happy and I love sharing it with other people because I think it makes them happy too. Besides making art, I love playing music on my ukulele and singing songs by the Beatles, my favorite music group.
