Gate City Zen
Weekly on Sundays | 9am
(Please arrive by 8:50 so we can begin to sit at 9)
Gate City Zen is a lay Buddhist meditation group, or sangha, established in 2006, whose mission is to sit together in silence. On Sunday mornings we meditate for 30 minutes, walk silently for 10 minutes, read a short reading, and share tea and conversation. Zen is the school of Buddhism which emphasizes the religious practice of meditation in the form of shikantaza or “just sitting.” The Buddha taught that Ignorance, created by our greed, hate, and delusion, prevents us from realizing that we are all enlightened.
Embracing diversity, Gate City Zen practices the dharma and expresses the fundamental connection of all beings by welcoming everyone to the practice of silent meditation. May all beings realize their true nature.
Gate City Zen has played a pivotal role in fostering connections. It serves as a unifying force, bringing together diverse groups of individuals from various age groups and different communities who may not have had the opportunity to interact otherwise. By providing a space for people from both the campus and the wider community to gather and meditate together in silence, we have facilitated the formation of social bonds that may not have otherwise existed.
