About Emotions and Connections
The driving force behind these works is communication. The ability and difficulty to communicate abstract concepts effectively limits our understanding of one another. The series of abstract emotional pieces attempts to bridge that gap: doing my best to convey the way I was feeling as I made them.
The series People enters into conversation with a much debated topic of the times: abortion. The first piece, Pregnancy, establishes the fact that every single person experiences pregnancy differently. The thoughts, emotions, and experiences are unique from person to person. The second piece in this series, The Film of Perception, conveys the fact that there are different experiences among people that undergo abortions as well. The same concepts that apply to pregnancy then apply to abortion, but more than that the people who undergo abortions are people, in spite of anyone else’s view.
Alongside these pieces are facts and statistics about the “state of abortion” in North Carolina right now, coupled with medically necessary and life threatening ailments that will kill mothers if abortion is outlawed.
Emotional Abstracts:
A series of abstract drawings meant to convey specific emotions to the viewer. Each has a center piece that incorporates form in order to combine both form and the abstract qualities from the surrounding pieces in order to communicate to the audience.
People:
A triplet of silhouettes and data visualizations talking about the experience of individuals. The first is meant to convey that pregnancy is experienced differently from person to person, the second attempts to communicate the same concept but about people who experience abortion. Lastly, the third piece is meant to convey that the people who go through with abortions are truly people and not inhumane or monsters as they're often made out to be.
The data visualizations include statistics about mortality rates and preventable deaths befalling mother's. Additionally, it will include the mental health effects that abortion and forced labor to term on the mother.
