New Music Greensboro presents Christian Marclay and ensemBle baBel
UNCG students, Greensboro musicians, and the general public have the extraordinary opportunity to collaborate with rock star of the art world, Christian Marclay! Marclay and ensemBle baBel of Switzerland will engage in a series of workshops. Workshop participants will investigate the video score Screen Play, and perform Marclay’s Graffiti Composition with the artist and ensemBle baBel on April 11 at the Weatherspoon Art Museum. Also on the program is the North American premiere of To Be Continued, written for baBel, which is led by Greensboro’s own Laurent Estoppey. To sign up for the workshop, see contacts below. Christian Marclay
Recipient of the Golden Lion at the 2011 Venice Biennale for his film The Clock, Christian Marclay is one of the leading figures in today’s art world. He is also known as a composer, and as one of the pioneers of turntablism in the 1970’s He has exhibited widely, including solo exhibitions at Barbican, London (2005), Walker Art Centre, Minneapolis (2004), Tate Modern, London (2004), The Museum of Contemporary Art, North Miami (2002), San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (2002), Whitney Art Museum, New York (1997).

The myth of Babel suggests a multiplicity of origins, languages and styles. Founded in Lausanne, Switzerland, ensemBle baBel presents multi-faceted ways of appropriating early, classical, and contemporary music through innovative approaches, improvisation, remix, and collaboration with scientists, artists, art galleries and museums.
